Word! - UPDATED, YO!

From the AP write-up of today's scintillating A's loss:

"We have a lineup full of Great White sharks," [Dallas] Braden said. "If they smell blood it's going to be on and cracking."

==

Seriously…how do white folk have such an uncanny knack for jackin' Black slang ten years after Black folk stopped using said Black slang?

UPDATE:

The beat writer for the San Francisco Chronicle took some liberties with Braden's quote above. Here's how it appeared in today's paper:

"We have a lineup of great white sharks," Braden said. "When they smell blood, they'll be in there and get cracking."

Less ebonics = less awesome.

Has Braden seen the team he plays on? They'll be lucky to win 70 and have a higher scoring average than 1 or 2 AL teams this year.

Hey~! I already did the "bashing the A's" post, mister. This is the "bashing Braden's jargon" post!

Ok. Has Braden seen or heard the words that come out of his mouth? He'll be lucky not to get jacked (or whatever the proper slang is this year. I'm a middle-aged white guy, I don't even try to keep up with it all) next time his car breaks down in the wrong 'hood.

Yo, yo, yo!, as Cryme Tyme might say. No, I'm not even remotely cool.

Your Cryme Tyme references are always welcomed here.

In the white man's defense, ESPN's Stuart Scott isn't helping us in the least by stretching out the life span of "active black slang" by 5-10 more years whenever he's on TV.

Belee dat!

Word, Dallas, word.

When does Braden's rap album come out? That beat writer can be his press agent just so Dallas can fire his ass for "Keepin' me from keepin' it real. Ya know what I'm sayin', fo'shizzle?"

Hey! I thought that it was "on and popping". For shame, Dallas, for shame at not knowing the proper slang!

No, no..."on and cracking" IS also used. Although, "crackin'" is usually used as "What's crackin'" or "Keep it crackin'"; "on and crackin'" is an acceptable - perhaps regional - derivative.

What? Oh, don't any of YOU judge me.
