30 A's in 30 Days – Jason Giambi
Acquired: Signed as free agent (January 7, 2009).
Contract: One year ($5.25M) with 2010 team option ($6.25M).
Position: Starting DH
Projected BA/OBP/SLG: (.231/.373/.450)
Over/Under: That's an .823 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) and I'm inclined to take the OVER. If Giambi stays relatively healthy and frequents the line-up as he did with the Yankees in 2005-06, 2008 that OBP could nose towards .400 – especially if he bats fifth for the A's, who offer nowhere near the protection he got with the Yankees.
By the Numbers: 195 – The listed weight on the back of Giambi's 1991 Topps Traded card. I'd probably put his current weight at…202. Maybe, 203.
Surefire '09 Prediction: Every member of the A's player-friendly media groupies will fall over themselves to be first with the "return of the A's carefree, frat-house, child-like clubhouse" storyline. Concurrently, they will all ignore that Jason Giambi is 38 years old. How old is too old for post-game shaving cream pies and fart jokes?

they're baseball players . . . the answer is never.
as an aside, isn't 38 a number terribly you are approaching with charlie sheen-like terminal velocity?
I accuse you of "Calibiri bias", good sir. As your boy Jeff Kent taught us: baseball is not supposed to be fun.
Also, quite stealing my obscure pop culture reference gimmick.
Also, go to bed.
