One more sincere "thank you" from me to everyone who took the time to follow this feature. Over the last month, I've heard from longtime readers dating back to the Bootleg music column days and new readers who found TBG for the first time. I really appreciated the encouragement, kids.
And, I'd be remiss if I didn't single out my wife and son. This may not mean much to most of my readers, but Mrs. Bootleg let me out of TWO preschool-aged birthday parties in August so that I could work some of the above write-ups. Trust me on this: for most fathers, such a furlough is unheard of. Meanwhile, Jalen has perfected his mom's disdainful, dismissive "Are you writing for your blog?" query.
Looks like I'll have to go back to being at least a part-time father and husband.
Damn it.
Great, great work, Cam. And I'm not just saying that because you put the Yankees clear ahead of the Red Sox.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm one of the new readers you speak of and I enjoyed the hell out this. Longtime Cubs fan and I couldn't agree with you more about Brenly's analytical hijacking of the action. I await your September write up of every NFL broadcast team.
ReplyDeleteYES~!
ReplyDeleteI didn't want to be that a-hole that asked you to put up a post with all of the teams and their scores, but I'm glad you came thru.
I will however be the a-hole that makes two other suggestions. One, I really think you should do a Padres game with their #1 broadcast team. Vasgersian and Mark Grant will EASILY make it into the 30s. Also, since I'm sure you weren't able to fit everything from your notes into the feature, how about a "deleted scenes" type of post?
You can live on my couch when Mrs. Bootleg throws you out for neglect.
Well, I feel pretty stupid for picking "August 10" in the pool for "when will Cam miss the first day of his '30 straight days' of posting feature?"
ReplyDeleteWhat can i say, Cam? Great job and each one was waiting for me at work first thing in the morning. That's all I ask of non-work related distractions.
Now, we MUST begin your guerilla marketing campaign so that the whole world what you think of little-known western Pennsylvania broadcasters.
Great job with the Summer of Sounds series Senõr Boot. I appreciate the time and effort you put in to this project, while I sat here at work and read everyone of these entries over the last several weeks, wasting sweet, sweet company time.
ReplyDeleteI am nothing if not a means to reduce American productivity in the workplace. Glad I could help - just don't blame me when the British pass us by. You know they saved our ass in World War III.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on the guerilla marketing, Mex. Although - in what's probably the highpoint of this lightly read blog - I received a nice note from one of the broadcasters who finished in the top five of the rankings. One of you guys sent him the link, so whoever it was THANK YOU.
(Of course, since this IS the internet, there's probably a .001% chance that the broadcaster isn't who he said he was, but, hey...if you can't trust the internet.)
Hey, bootleg guy
ReplyDeleteI really liked this feature (and I think you were absolutely right about Vin Scully and those clowns who do the Angels games). I have a pretty stupid question though. What is "bar stool Q" supposed to mean. I think I have an idea, but I don't want to incur your mocking wrath :)
Pfft...the only "stupid question" is one asked by "that Mexican guy".
ReplyDeleteIf you click on the "July 2008" link on the right of the screen, the first post you'll see is the intro to "Sounds of Summer" that explains all of the criteria.
I'll put a link to it on this post when I get a chance.
